The Legislature of the United States, Treasonous and Unethical or Willfully Stupid.

Legislators charged with Treason! Wouldn’t that be a wonderful headline to wake up to.

It is very obvious that the problems we are having are being purposely stretched out as long as possible. It would be pretty easy to make stand a charge of treason against many of our legislators.

The charge I believe requires 2 witnesses which would be incredibly simple since the entire world has been witnessing the debacle in Washington.

I do not see how any one of them could talk their way out of this. It so obvious it is comical.

The Senate Minority leader Mitch Mcconnell just filibustered his own proposal. He requested a vote on the presidents proposal on the debt ceiling because it mirrored the one he suggested a year or so ago. Then the Democrats agreed that they wanted an immediate vote so McConnell started a filibuster to kill his own idea just because the Democrats agreed with it so I am sure he is scared that it might actually make them look good and since no one up there seems to really care about the country I say TREASON!

Economic Woes

I am getting so tired of all the ridiculous stuff that is being pandered by politicians and, to some degree, the media.

We have many that still blame Bush for the economy. We have the republicans who blame Obama.

How about if everyone blames Congress. They prove regularly that they are not really interested in getting folks back to work. The house will pass a bill and then the Senate will refuse to vote on it. The Senate will introduce a bill which will get shot down in many cases before it can be voted and sent to the House who would then in most cases instantly vote it down.

Are any of the republicans out there embarrassed by the fact the that the Republicans in the House are so incredibly far away from the Republicans in the Senate when it comes to agreeing on something?

I will agree that there may be some fundamental things that perhaps you do not want to compromise on but people are living in abject poverty and losing ground daily. Please do not come to me and say that they do not deserve to make more money or have a job.

There are certainly those that are not willing to really work for something but that is not in any way the majority of people.

The majority of our current economic problems is Congress. I don’t care what party you are but despite what has been said by some candidates and despite the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United Corporations are NOT people. I would not want to do away with corporations because they employ a very large number of people and they absolutely deserve to make money.

There are those that will come out and say “but if we pay more then unemployment will go up”. Horse Hockey! The states that have implemented higher minimum wages than the federal mandate show no such unemployment hike.

To the stockholders out there. I hope you all become very wealthy. That being said, the returns you guys are looking for are % rates that not very many years ago are rates that were charged by people who would break your legs or kill you if you didn’t pay in time. Do you enjoy being associated with organized crime? That is the kind of rate you are looking for.

To those who have become wealthy, I hope you remain so But what are you going to do when the middle class is gone you rich guys are all just passing money around between you? That sounds like much fun. I would much rather earn a rate of 5% to 9% on something that will remain stable for many years to come. I realize you may not be able to afford that 15,000 square foot vacation home but really, is that absolutely needed?

Is Anyone Tired of the Political Babble?

I would so like to hear the candidates speak to the most pressing problems we have right now which is unemployment and a substantially larger group of people living in poverty.

We absolutely need to bring down government spending and take care of the debt but we need to focus on bringing back jobs and making the jobs available now well paying jobs. we hear all of our politicians speaking about how the Untied States has the most productive workers in the world. I fully believe that. Someone please tell me why our workers, as they get more and more productive, are being paid less and less money?

Executives of corporations are being paid enormous amounts of money and their pay goes up. Stockholders are looking for rates of return that only the mob got 30 years ago or so. Companies are sitting on Trillions of dollars and not doing anything with it. How about we start paying the little guy, that makes your company work (see how far you get with just upper management and executives), a piece of the pie that he/she is absolutely responsible for making.

Please, keep giving the execs and the shareholders bunches of money but for God’s sake let let the rest of the company have enough to show that they are appreciated for what they do because you can’t do without them. Let’s see the CEO of AT&T climb a cell tower to make repairs or sit and answer calls in the call center for a week or so.

You candidates, you talk about getting people back to work to broaden the tax base. A great idea although hopefully you are not taking a page from the playbook of Michelle Bachman who thinks every single person should pay some kind of income tax. Great idea. Those working fast food joints and convenience stores making minimum wage or a bit more will love that because most of them don’t get anywhere near 40 hours a week because of course if they did that they would have to offer benefits. I would love to see Michelle Bachman survive on 15K a year or so and find a way to pay taxes.

Then we have the candidates that have survived thus far. Mitt wants to make the US a corporation and would also love to reinvent himself. Regardless of his claims to the contrary his health care reform in Massachusetts has far too many similarities to Obamas for it to not have been used at least partially as a model. I do not have a major problem with Obamas health care reform although I do not agree with all of it but I, unlike most of the republican field, do not consider the word compromise to be an obscenity.

Santorum has a few good ideas but I suspect his tendency to look on women in general in a way that I consider to be a throwback to the Neanderthal will not get him elected very fast.

Newt can’t seem to figure out if he is going to a tough guy or not with his advertising. I applaud his call for civil advertising but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon since corporations can again give unlimited amounts of money to candidates who are then pretty strongly beholden to make sure they get their moneys worth.

Ron Paul, a very nice gentleman who also has a few good ideas. His foreign policy scares me though. Ignoring the problems in the rest of the world is not always the best policy. There are certainly some things we need have no part in but isolationist tendencies, pretending it was not happening, is what got some 11 million non-Aryans killed in the camps and by extermination squads.

We are such a pathetic country sometimes.

There are posts all over the place going on and on about the mandated contraceptive coverage as part of the health care bill.

No one is forcing anyone to make use of the coverage. Only that it be made available to those that want or need it. People then start trotting out the old stand-by “separation of church and state” comments or saying that if you want that sort of coverage in your health care you should look for work at places that provide it.

We have politicians that state that they are not worried about the poor because there are safety nets that may need fixing but they are there. Then the spin starts. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Lets start with the separation of church and state. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.

Anyone know what that means? I can tell you what it does not mean. It does not mean we are a “Christian Nation” even though there are many millions or tens of millions that are. The very statement calling us a Christian Nation is prohibited by the First Amendment because that statement, in effect tells everyone that Christianity is the established religion of the United States.

For those that do not believe in birth control and feel that their beliefs should be forced on anyone else that they happen to work with or in some cases just meet in the street, perhaps you should be mandated to take fertility drugs to ensure the conception of as many children as possible.

As far as looking for a job where the insurance has what you want, not a bad idea but since this is couched on religious grounds, it is against the law except in a few special circumstances, to deny someone a job based on their religion and a case could easily be made that structuring your insurance plan to meet all of your religious beliefs would be a form of bias against those of other religions since it could keep them from applying.

And from a cost standpoint it does make a certain amount of sense. Birth control is far less expensive than pre and post partum medical care and treatment.

The Fun Begins

Tomorrow we have the Iowa Caucuses and the political circus will really begin. I realize it has been a bit of a circus for the last year since it has become the norm to spend far more time campaigning than actually doing any work(or trying to look like you are doing work).

All 3 rings will open tomorrow and the little clown cars are going to be popping up everywhere since these guys are pretty much all clowns.

If the patron saint of comedians is able to control this then we will in November have a Ron Paul/Michelle Bachman ticket on the Republican side.

Of course that would actually be unfair to the democrats because they would be spending so much time laughing themselves sick they might forget to go to the poles.
