There are posts all over the place going on and on about the mandated contraceptive coverage as part of the health care bill.
No one is forcing anyone to make use of the coverage. Only that it be made available to those that want or need it. People then start trotting out the old stand-by “separation of church and state” comments or saying that if you want that sort of coverage in your health care you should look for work at places that provide it.
We have politicians that state that they are not worried about the poor because there are safety nets that may need fixing but they are there. Then the spin starts. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
Lets start with the separation of church and state. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.
Anyone know what that means? I can tell you what it does not mean. It does not mean we are a “Christian Nation” even though there are many millions or tens of millions that are. The very statement calling us a Christian Nation is prohibited by the First Amendment because that statement, in effect tells everyone that Christianity is the established religion of the United States.
For those that do not believe in birth control and feel that their beliefs should be forced on anyone else that they happen to work with or in some cases just meet in the street, perhaps you should be mandated to take fertility drugs to ensure the conception of as many children as possible.
As far as looking for a job where the insurance has what you want, not a bad idea but since this is couched on religious grounds, it is against the law except in a few special circumstances, to deny someone a job based on their religion and a case could easily be made that structuring your insurance plan to meet all of your religious beliefs would be a form of bias against those of other religions since it could keep them from applying.
And from a cost standpoint it does make a certain amount of sense. Birth control is far less expensive than pre and post partum medical care and treatment.
