Is Cuba Really That Menacing?

In the 60s it was indeed menacing with allowing the former Soviet Union to position nuclear missiles on the island. That was taken care of by President Kennedy during a very tense stand off.

The Soviet Union no longer exists and nuclear attacks from the island are, shall we say rather unlikely, since the nation is pretty much destitute.

The Castro's are not very likeable people and the island is still communist but we now have interactions with countries that were far more of a problem, and in the case of China certainly far more of a threat that Cuba ever was. We allow unfettered travel to Vietnam for instance and I would never suggest that we change that. Things change and there is no reason to keep alive a very onerous embargo on this poor island nation. We are hurting the people there fare more than the leaders by doing this.

Despite the fact that there are many people in positions of power or political clout in Florida that would have us never deal with Cuba through the end of time, we need to do what is right for the people.

Of course our politicians are not capable of doing what is right for our own people so I suppose it goes without saying that anyone else is pretty much screwed.
